CastleRock2012-Reisebericht

One of the good things among my job is, that it sometimes takes me to nice places on this planet. If there was only the flight, the conference, the hotel and the jetlag-caused sleepless nights, there was maybe little fun about it. Yet there is fun. And I always try to connect every business trip with this sort of a smile.

In this case there is Kelly. I know her from the shaman course on Hawaii. And there is Franny, a good friend of her. And together with Kelly and Franny there is always a good restaurant. In this case I had my first Burmese restaurant experience and the Indian restaurant was just as good.

The purpose of our meeting was a hike. Kelly suggested Castle Rock and her suggestion was great. Castle Rock is very close to San Francsico in the Mountains high above San Jose. A winding road leads up from Saratoga to Skyline Boulevard and Franny experiences a challenging first alpine road drive.

A pleasant park is situated on the ridge with silent trails through a tall mossy forest with many ferns. Strange sandstone rock formations lie scattered between the trees and only few of them peak out of the green. Big hollows and hundreds of rock tunnels call me to feel like a caveman. A fresh breeze swooshes through the needle tree tops interrupted only by our iPhone click sounds. Gigantic fir trees invite us to hug them and warm sun spots make the moss glow on the rock formations.

We decide to take the ridge walk up to Goat rock. The vegetation changes every few meters through the warm and sunny south slopes. We take a sweet rest on a nice exposed rock that provides a good view on the climbers. The green and deep blue panorama down to the Pacific Ocean invites us to stay. And so we stand and watch the circling birds winding up in the ascent.

And after a quick nap on the warm grass we end up in a good restaurant. Where else? It makes a delicious end of a sunny, pleasant, and very relaxing day. See you again.
